Lodwar ist das Verwaltungszentrum des Turkana Countys im Nordwesten Kenias mit ca. 20.000 Einwohnern. Das County, ein semi-arides Gebiet (Halbwüste), grenzt an Uganda, den Südsudan und Äthiopien. Die Stadt ist Sitz des römisch-katholischen Bistums Lodwar. Lodwar liegt auf etwa 500 Metern Meereshöhe und ungefähr 360 Kilometer nördlich von Eldoret sowie 120 Kilometer südlich von Kakuma an der von Mombasa über Nairobi, Nakuru, Eldoret und Kitale verlaufenden Straße nach Juba.
