The town was known as Lwów, before the name was changed to the current Lwówek in the mid-15th century for distinction from the larger city of Lwów. Lwówek was a private town, administratively located in the Poznań County in the Poznań Voivodeship in the Greater Poland Province of the Kingdom of Poland.
