Lynn Hershman was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1941. She studied at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland (B.S.1963) and at San Francisco State University (M.A. 1972). She resides in San Francisco and is Professor of Electronic Art at the University of California, Davis. In the early 1980's, she pioneered in the use of interactive media as a tool for artistic work. Hershman has won numerous awards worldwide. Most recently, she was nominated for the 1995 Siemens-Medienkunstpreis, awarded by the Zentrum für Kunst und Medien-technologie in Germany.
