Maite Hontelé is a Dutch trumpeter specialized in Latin and jazz trumpet. She grew up in a house full of music. Back home they spent most of the time listening to salsa and son cubano. She started playing the trumpet in the local brass band in Haaften, the village where she grew up, but changed direction at the age of 14 when she decided to play latin music in a band in Utrecht. Hontelé then studied Latin and jazz trumpet at the Rotterdam Conservatory (CODARTS). <a href="https://www.last.fm/musi

maitehontele.nl →Maite Hontelé is a Dutch trumpet player renowned for her deep connection to Latin music. Born in the Netherlands, she developed a passion for salsa and son cubano, leading her to build a successful career in Colombia, where she became a celebrated artist. With a distinctive sound and a love for rhythm and melody, she has performed worldwide, sharing stages and recording studios with legends like Rubén Blades, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Oscar D’León, Orquesta Aragón, Vicente García and many others. She recorded five albums as a bandleader and received Latin Grammy nominations in 2014 and 2019. After taking a break from playing, she returned to the flugelhorn in 2023 and became the conductor of the NJJO (National Youth Jazz Orchestra of The Netherlands). She also performs in a duo with Cuban pianist Ramón Valle. They released their album 'HAVANA' in 2025. Together with partner in crime, bassist Adinda Meertins, Maite is working on their most ambitious project yet: LA NOVIA. Backed by a band of top musicians from the Latin scene, they blur the lines between Latin and pop—and shake things up in a big way. In addition to her musical career, Maite works as host presenter for Dutch television, bringing her expertise and enthusiasm for music to a broader audience.
