==Etymology== The name has been derived from Maithan or Maa-er-Sthaan, meaning 'Mother's Place' in Bengali. The place of Maa or Mother, refers to Goddess Durga or Ma Kalyaneswari of the famous Kalyaneshwari temple nearby.
