Malwa

Malwa () is a historical region of west-central India occupying a plateau of volcanic origin. Geologically, the Malwa Plateau generally refers to the volcanic upland north of the Vindhya Range. Politically and administratively, it is also synonymous with the former state of Madhya Bharat which was later merged with Madhya Pradesh. At present the historical Malwa region includes districts of western Madhya Pradesh and parts of south-eastern Rajasthan. Sometimes the definition of Malwa is extended to include the Nimar region south of the Vindhyas.

Malwa (:माळवा, IAST: Māļavā) is een streek in het noordwestelijk gedeelte van Centraal-India. Het ligt op een vulkanisch plateau in het westelijke gedeelte van de deelstaat Madhya Pradesh. De regio was een onafhankelijke politieke entiteit vanaf de tijd van de Arische stam van de tot 1947, toen de Britse werd opgenomen in de deelstaat Madhya Pradesh (ook wel bekend als Malwa-unie). Een klein deel van de Malwaregio ligt sinds 1947 in de deelstaat Rajasthan. Hoewel de politieke grenzen door de geschiedenis heen zijn verschoven, heeft de regio haar eigen cultuur en taal behouden.
