Manuel Blum

Manuel Blum was born on 26 April 1938 in Caracas and holds citizenship of the United States. He worked as a computer scientist and university teacher, with a field of work in computer science, and was educated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology under doctoral advisor Marvin Minsky. He was employed by the University of California, Berkeley and Carnegie Mellon University, and supervised doctoral students including Luis von Ahn, Gary Miller, Leonard Adleman and Michael Sipser. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering and the Association for Computing Machinery, received the Turing Award, and was named an ACM Fellow. His spouse is Lenore Blum and his child is Avrim Blum. He resides in Pittsburgh.
