One of Mason’s maternal great-great-great-grandfathers was Simon Pollard Hughes, Jr., a Democratic politician, who was Governor of Arkansas, from January 17, 1885 to January 8, 1889. Mason’s paternal grandfather was James Lester Elston (the son of Joseph Lester Elston and Annie Grace Morton). James was born in Savannah, Georgia, and was a law professor. Joseph was the son of Barzilla Elston and Jessie Alice Guess. Annie was the daughter of Joseph Benjamin Morton and Mary Elizabeth Finch. Mason’s paternal grandmother was Margaret Allison Cook (the daughter of George Rea Cook III and Margaretta Roebling White). Mason’s grandmother Margaret was born in Pennsylvania. George was the son of Edmund Dunham Cook and Margaret Parsons. Mason’s great-grandmother Margaretta was the daughter of William Townsend White and Augusta Henrietta Roebling. Mason’s maternal grandfather is Charles Douglas Bell (the son of Austin Holloway Bell and Lucy/Lucille Boylan). Lucy was the daughter of Henry Harrison “Harry” Boylan and Mabelle Claire Gipson. Mason’s maternal grandmother was Gwen Etta Hughes (the daughter of Simon P. Hughes, Sr. and Maude/Maud Etta Robinson). Gwen was born in Oklahoma. Simon was the son of Robert L./Carlton Hughes and Alice C. Maude was the daughter of Travis Gatewood Robinson and Mamie Anna Davison. (the son of Joseph Lester Elston and Annie Grace Morton).
