Mayhem is a pioneering Norwegian black metal band that formed in the late 1980s and became one of the genre's most influential groups through their raw, aggressive sound and dark aesthetic. The band is historically significant in black metal because they helped define the genre's style and attitude during its formative years in the Scandinavian metal scene.
