Michael « Mike » E. Brown, né le 5 juin 1965, est un astronome et professeur en astronomie planétaire au CalTech. Codécouvreur de plusieurs des plus importants objets transneptuniens, dont Quaoar, Sedna, Orcus, Éris et Makémaké, tour à tour qualifiés dans les journaux de dixième planète et dont les deux derniers sont aujourd'hui classés comme planètes naines (les autres étant toujours candidats à ce statut), il s'est lui-même appelé par humour « Pluto killer », « l'homme qui a tué Pluton ». Il a d'ailleurs publié en 2010 un mémoire intitulé How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming (littéralement Comment j'ai tué Pluton et pourquoi il l'a mérité).
