Its name is an abbreviation of its origin Alpine town Monestier-de-Clermont, France, a ski resort near Grenoble. Italian entrepreneur Remo Ruffini bought the company in 2003 and moved it to Milan, re-launching Moncler as a global purveyor of luxury goods.
