The Moomins are white, round fairy-tale characters created by Finnish writer and illustrator Tove Jansson that appear in novels, short stories, picture books, and comic strips originally published in Swedish. Though they resemble hippopotamuses, they are actually trolls who live as a family in Moominvalley, and their stories have become a significant part of children's and fantasy literature.
