Seattle Theatre Group (STG) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization and independent event promoter dedicated to making diverse performing arts and education a vital part of the region's cultural identity while preserving the vibrancy of our historic venues: The Paramount, Moore, Neptune, The 5th Avenue Theatres, Kerry Hall, and an outdoor concert venue at Remlinger Farm in Carnation, Washington. STG presents a range of performances from Broadway, off-Broadway, dance and jazz, to comedy, concerts of all genres, speakers, and family shows – at these iconic theatres in Seattle and venues throughout the Puget Sound region and in Portland, Oregon. STG Education and Community Engagements extend beyond the Paramount, Moore, and Neptune Theatre stages and into the lives of the greater Puget Sound community. Each season, STG offers over 706 education and community engagements impacting over 50,000 students and community members from diverse ages and backgrounds. These programs deepen significance to performances through opportunities to engage with artists, inspire youth and local artists through training and performance opportunities, and provide exposure to the arts through access initiatives. It is our role to advocate for greater participation in the arts, reduce barriers, and include diverse People, Cultures and Perspectives on our stages, in our audiences and within our staff, volunteers and board. We are committed to caring relationships with patrons, partners, artists and staff. We deepen connection to art when we inspire the greater community through education, performance opportunities and healing. We believe in the power of passionate people who care for our mission and each other. We make the best use of our resources, effectively and sustainably serve our mission, and preserve our assets. STG believes in the transformative power of representation and strives to present a diversity of viewpoints on our stages. Sharing experiences through art has the power to shift perspectives, challenge norms, and radically change the way in which we view ourselves, each other, and the world around us. Controversy will occasionally arise both internally and externally around decisions to present an artist on our stages. We approach these controversies seriously. The variety of issues are vast and the timing in which they occur (sometimes after we’re contractually obligated) affect how we’re able to respond. Public inciting or promoting of hatred from STG’s stages that may breach public safety is never tolerated. We do not condone any expression that exposes vulnerable groups to hate speech, which has repercussions that reach far beyond our stages. Hate speech implies that named individuals or groups are to be despised, denied respect, and made subject to ill-treatment based on group affiliation. By defining hate speech, STG does not seek to limit freedom of expression but rather aims to address the vilification that incites discrimination and hostility, both against the targeted group and the values of our society.
