Myrmecodia beccarii на стволе дерева Эпифитные полукустарники с клубневидно утолщённым основанием стебля, пронизанным многочисленными полостями, которые населяют муравьи. Снаружи клубневидный стебель покрыт придаточными корнями (у некоторых видов они превращены в колючки). Побеги короткие, четырёхгранные, с супротивными листьями. Цветки мелкие, белые; плод — ягода.

Myrmecodia is a genus of epiphytic plants, present in Indochina, Malesia, Papuasia, and Queensland, Australia. It is one of five ant-plant genera in the family Rubiaceae, the others being Anthorrhiza, Hydnophytum, Myrmephytum, and Squamellaria.
