Ранее он включался в большое семейство Ranidae, но филогенетическое исследование на основе ДНК заставило перенести его в семейство Dicroglossidae. Это плоскотелые лягушки, приспособленные для жизни среди узких горизонтальных скальных трещин вблизи потоков чистой воды.
