Article
NGC 4653 is an intermediate spiral galaxy in the constellation of Virgo. Its velocity with respect to the cosmic microwave background is 2,960±24 km/s, which corresponds to a Hubble distance of 142.4 ± 10.0 Mly (43.66 ± 3.08 Mpc). However, two non-redshift measurements give a closer distance of 131.11 ± 3.59 Mly (40.200 ± 1.100 Mpc). It was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel on 11 April 1787.
