Octopodiformes is a superorder of the subclass Coleoidea, comprising the octopuses and the vampire squid. All living members of Octopodiformes have eight arms, either lacking the two tentacles of squid (as is the case in octopuses) or modifying the tentacles into thin filaments (as in vampire squid). Octopodiformes is often considered the crown group of octopuses and vampire squids, including all descendants of their common ancestor. Zur Gruppe der Achtarmigen Tintenfische (Octopodiformes oder Vampyropoda) zählen die Kraken im engeren Sinn (Octopoda), die Cirrentragenden Kraken (Cirroctopoda) und die Vampirtintenfischähnlichen (Vampyromorpha). Sie sind durch den Besitz von acht Armen ausgezeichnet. Die Vampirtintenfischähnlichen besitzen zwischen den ersten beiden Armpaaren (vom Kopf her gezählt) noch ein Paar rückziehbare Filamente, die als Sinnesorgane genutzt werden. Die frühe Entwicklung im Ei der Achtarmigen Tintenfische und die Zwischenstellung der Vampirtintenfischähnlichen belegen, dass die Gruppe von ursprünglich zehnarmigen Tintenfischen abstammt. Der gleichzeitig älteste bekannte und einzige noch zehnarmige Vertreter der Octopodiformes ist Syllipsimopodi bideni aus dem Karbon. Bis zu seiner Entdeckung im Jahr 2022 stammten die ältesten Funde, die sicher den Octopodiformes zugeordnet werden, aus dem Rhaetium der Obertrias.

Octopodiformes is a superorder of the subclass Coleoidea, comprising the octopuses and the vampire squid. All living members of Octopodiformes have eight arms, either lacking the two tentacles of squid (as is the case in octopuses) or modifying the tentacles into thin filaments (as in vampire squid). Octopodiformes is often considered the crown group of octopuses and vampire squids, including all descendants of their common ancestor. Some authors use the term Vampyropoda for the same general category, though others use "Vampyropoda" to refer to the total group (all cephalopods closer to octopods than to true squid). Another term is Octobrachia, referring to cephalopods without prominent tentacles.

It is considered one of the two extant groups of the Neocoleoidea.
