Oriental Shrew

Crocidura orientalis is een spitsmuis uit het geslacht Crocidura die voorkomt in de bergen van Java. Het is één van de twee grote Crocidura-soorten van Java (de andere is C. brunnea). Beide zijn wel tot C. fuliginosa gerekend. C. orientalis is van C. brunnea te onderscheiden door de vorm van de staart: C. orientalis heeft een vrijwel onbehaarde (ondersoort orientalis) of slechts voor een deel behaarde (ondersoort lawuana), ronde staart. De kop-romplengte bedraagt 73 tot 100 mm, de staartlengte 62 tot 86 mm, de achtervoetlengte 14 tot 17,1 mm en de schedellengte 21,5 tot 24,6 mm. Het karyotype bedraagt 2n=38, FN=56.
