Die Serie wurde von geschrieben und thematisiert das Leben in einem Hochsicherheitsgefängnis. Sie gilt als die erste der „Quality TV“-Serien von HBO. Die deutschsprachige Erstausstrahlung sendete der Pay-TV-Sender Sky Atlantic HD vom 24. März 2014 bis zum 11. Juni 2014.
