==Origins== The surname, written in Spanish orthography as , is a patronymic surname meaning "son of Pedro" ("Pero" in archaic Spanish), the Spanish equivalent of Peter. At the same time, the name Pedro derives from the Latin name Petrus, meaning "rock or stone".
