Persians are an Iranian ethnic group native to the Iranian plateau who make up the majority of Iran's population and share the Persian language and cultural system. Historically, "Persian" in the West referred to all Iranians broadly, but this shifted in the 20th century to more accurately describe the specific Persian ethnic group.
