== Taxonomy and Nomenclature == Peyssonnelia belongs to class Florideophyceae, of the order Peyssonneliales and Family Peyssonneliaceae. There are 89 currently recognized species as of 2021. Its lectotype is Peyssonnelia squamaria. The genus is the largest in the Peyssonneliaceae.
