Orginnally, scientists described Plistonax with nine species but lacked clear diagnostic traits, leading to unstable classification. Plistonax is polyphyletic, where Plistonax insolitus emerged as a lone lineage.

Plistonax is een kevergeslacht uit de familie van de boktorren (Cerambycidae). De wetenschappelijke naam van het geslacht werd voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1864 door Thomson.
