Pompeo Batoni

Pompeo Batoni (1708–1787) was an Italian painter specializing in portraits. Born Girolamo Pompeo Battoni in Lucca, he studied under Sebastiano Conca and was a member of the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno. His work is associated with the Classicism movement, and he wrote and spoke Italian.

Batoni died of a stroke in Rome in 1787. His works are held in the collections of the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Städel Museum, Minneapolis Institute of Art, and Museo del Prado. He is described in sources such as the *Encyclopædia Britannica* 11th edition and the *Svensk uppslagsbok*.
