Kurzwort für Protoplanetary disk), ist eine ringförmige Scheibe aus Gas und Staub um einen Protostern oder ein vergleichbares Objekt (junger Stern, Brauner Zwerg, Objekt planetarer Masse). Infolgedessen wird ihre Entstehung aus einem kollabierenden Molekülwolkenkern angenommen.
