==Taxonomy== The genus was erected by the English zoologist Robert Swinhoe in 1868 with the plain laughingthrush (Pterorhinus davidi) as the type species. The name of the genus combines the Ancient Greek pteron meaning "feather" with rhinos meaning "nostrils".
