Pyay, and formerly anglicised as Prome, is the principal town of Pyay Township in the Bago Region in Myanmar. Pyay is located on the bank of the Irrawaddy River, north-west of Yangon. It is an important trade center for the Ayeyarwady Delta, Central and Upper Myanmar and the Rakhine (Arakan) State. The British Irrawaddy Flotilla Company established the current town in the late 19th century on the Irrawaddy as a transshipment point for cargo between Upper and Lower Burma. Pyay is also the terminus of Yangon-Pyay Railway which is the first railway line in Burma (Myanmar) opened on 1 May 1877. Th

Prome, hoje Pyay (birmanês ပ္ရည္), é uma cidade e um distrito da Birmânia situados a oeste da divisão de Pegu, 161 Km ao Norte de Rangoon. A sua população era de 83,000 habitantes em 1983. A alguns quilómetros da velha cidade de Prome encontra-se a aldeia de , sítio da antiga capital do reino de (séculos VII - XI). A nova cidade foi fundada pelos británicos no fim do século XIX, para servir de porto fluvial intermediário entre a Alta Birmânia e a Baixa Birmânia.
