Il pitone delle rocce indiano o pitone moluro (Python molurus) vive in un'area di distribuzione molto estesa, che comprende circa mezzo continente asiatico. Ne esistono due sottospecie: , e , che può arrivare a 6,4 m e 91 kg. In media in India la sottospecie molurus molurus cresce fino a 3 metri. Si ciba di mammiferi fino a quelli del suo peso circa, pesci, uccelli e coccodrilli sub adulti. In seguito alla riproduzione (le uova possono essere anche 100) l'esemplare maschio non si interessa minimamente della cura delle uova e dei suoi futuri piccoli. Questo grosso serpente è capace di "camminare" letteralmente per spostarsi sul terreno: infatti è uno dei pochi se non l'unico che si muove linearmente e non in diagonale o in linea ondulata. Per muoversi fa avanzare alternativamente le due metà del costato e in questo modo utilizza le sue costole quasi come se fossero zampe.
