Le genre Rhinoceros est l'un des quatre genres de la famille des rhinocéros (ou Rhinocerotidae). Il ne faut donc pas confondre le nom de genre Rhinoceros avec le nom commun rhinocéros (qui s'écrit avec un accent). Il s'agit d'un genre regroupant deux espèces, vivant toutes les deux en Asie. C'est le seul genre de la famille des rhinocéros (Rhinocerotidae) qui compte plus d'une espèce. Les deux espèces sont les seules de la famille à n'avoir qu'une seule corne.

Rhinoceros is a genus comprising one-horned rhinoceroses. This scientific name was proposed by Swedish taxonomist Carl Linnaeus in 1758. The genus contains two species, the Indian rhinoceros (R. unicornis) and the Javan rhinoceros (R. sondaicus). Although both members are threatened, the Javan rhinoceros is one of the most endangered large mammals in the world, with only 60 individuals surviving in Java (Indonesia).
