Rhizostomeae is an order of jellyfish. Species of this order have neither tentacles nor other structures at the bell's edges. Instead, they have eight highly branched oral arms, along which there are suctorial minimouth orifices. (This is in contrast to other scyphozoans, which have four of these arms.) These oral arms become fused as they approach the central part of the jellyfish. The mouth of the animal is also subdivided into minute pores that are linked to coelenteron.

Etwa 80 Arten sind bekannt, u. a. die an Europas Küsten lebende Lungenqualle (Rhizostoma pulmo), die einem Schirmdurchmesser von 60 bis 80 Zentimeter erreicht, die auch in der Nordsee vorkommende Wurzelmundqualle (Rhizostoma octopus) und die Spiegeleiqualle (Cotylorhiza tuberculata) aus dem Mittelmeer. Nemopilema nomurai ist die größte Wurzelmundqualle. Sie erreicht einen Durchmesser von bis zu zwei Metern und ein Gewicht von bis zu 200 Kilogramm. Ihre Tentakel werden bis zu 5 Meter lang.
