The player takes the role of Richard Burton, the nineteenth century explorer. The game begins with a cinematic sequence showing what happens to Burton after he has died – how he comes to enter Riverworld. Riverworld is a real-time strategy game, similar to Microsoft's Age Of Empires. Although Burton is the central character, it is seen from a third-person perspective, and other people within the game can be moved and controlled.

Mundo del Río o RiverWorld es un videojuego de PC lanzado en 1998 por Cryo Interactive, basada en la serie de novelas de Philip José Farmer. El jugador toma el papel de Sir Richard Francis Burton, explorador del siglo XIX. Comienza con una larga secuencia cinemática, que muestra como Burton después de haber muerto entra al mundo del río. Es un juego de estrategia en tiempo real muy similar a Age of Empires. Aunque Burton es el personaje central, es visto desde una perspectiva en tercera persona, y otras personas dentro del juego se pueden mover y controlar.
