Robert Badinter, né le 30 mars 1928 à Paris, est un homme politique, juriste et essayiste français. Professeur de droit privé et avocat au barreau de Paris, il se fait connaître pour son combat contre la peine de mort dont il défend l'abolition devant le Parlement en 1981. Proche de François Mitterrand, membre du parti socialiste, il est successivement garde des Sceaux de 1981 à 1986 puis président du Conseil constitutionnel de 1986 à 1995. Il est aussi sénateur des Hauts-de-Seine de 1995 à 2011. Tout au long de son engagement politique, il a pris position pour la réinsertion des détenus, pour une série d'évolutions du Code pénal ainsi que pour la lutte contre l'antisémitisme.
