Robin Rhode

Robin Rhode is a South African artist born in 1976, currently based in Berlin. Inspired by youth street culture and art history, he creates works in various techniques: drawings, paintings, photographs, and films. Rhode predominantly uses chalk, charcoal, and paint to create vibrant and temporary murals. Coming of age in the final years of South African apartheid, in his works, he questions ideas of identity, social hierarchy, and access to art history. The artist takes inspiration from hip-hop, film, and sports, depicting a range of historical and sociopolitical references. He received several art awards and exhibited in numerous institutions worldwide, such as the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, the Hayward Gallery in London, and LACMA in Los Angeles.
