Roy Hay was born in Essex, England. After graduating from school, Roy worked for an insurance company and then as a hairdresser. He was in the band Russian Bouquet and was introduced to Boy George later on by a co-worker from the insurance agency. Roy played keyboard and guitar for the band and sang back-up vocals.
