Rudolf Hilferding

Rudolf Hilferding was an Austrian-born economist, politician, writer, and physician who worked in Berlin. Born in Vienna on 10 August 1877, he was educated at the University of Vienna. He held citizenship in Austria, the Weimar Republic, and Germany. Hilferding was a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, the Independent Social Democratic Party of Germany, and the Social Democratic Party of Austria. He served in the Austro-Hungarian Army during World War I.

His notable works include *Karl Marx and the close of his system*, *Das Finanzkapital, eine Studie über die jüngste Entwicklung des Kapitalismus*, and *Die Schicksalsstunde der deutschen Wirtschaftspolitik*. He was married to Margarete Hilferding. Hilferding was detained at La Santé Prison and died in Paris on 11 February 1941. His archives are held at the International Institute of Social History.
