Sadako Ogata

Sadako Ogata was a Japanese political scientist, diplomat, university teacher, and jurist. Born in Tokyo in 1927, she was educated at the University of Tokyo, Georgetown University, Georgetown University Law Center, and the University of California, Berkeley. She worked as a teacher at the International Christian University and Sophia University. Her professional focus included international relations and humanitarian aid. She spoke Japanese and English.

Ogata received several awards, including the Commander of the Legion of Honour, the Order of Culture, the Ramon Magsaysay Award, and the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Peace Prize. She authored works such as *Normalization With China*, *Refugees*, and *The Turbulent Decade*. She was a member of the Catholic Church. She died in Tokyo in 2019. Her relatives included Kenkichi Yoshizawa, Inukai Tsuyoshi, Taketora Ogata, and Michiko Inukai.
