Setaria is a genus of plants within the family Poaceae. It belongs to the order Poales, class Magnoliopsida, and phylum Tracheophyta. The genus was described by Palisot de Beauvois in 1812 and is currently accepted. Common names for the group include bristlegrass, Xereix, bér, and Borstenhirsen. The fruit type is a caryopsis.
The parent taxon is Paniceae. One species, Setaria italica (L.) P. Beauv., is known as Italian millet. Records from iDigBio indicate the presence of this genus in Mexico, with specimens held by institutions such as IBUNAM, CICY, ECOSUR, FC-UNAM, and FCF-UANL.
