La simpsonita es un mineral de la clase de los minerales óxidos. Fue descubierta en 1938 en Australia Occidental (Australia), siendo nombrada así en honor de Edward S. Simpson, mineralogista australiano. Un sinónimo poco usado es el de calogerasita.
