== Name == The toponyn is in the feminine form derived from the surname Skamnelis with a change of gender in proportion to the noun such as a village or place. Linguist Kostas Oikonomou wrote Skamneli cannot be derived from the Greek form skamneli meaning 'small stool', as although it is possible to be created, the form is not used in the area of Epirus and the diminutive meaning of the word stool is expressed with the form skamnaki. The same is applicable to the surnames Skamnelis and Skamnelos which also do not stem from the unmarked diminutive form skamneli. Oikonomou states the placename is either from the surname Skamnis derived from word skamni 'stool' and the anthroponymic suffix -elis or from the Aromanian noun scamnel 'little stool', diminutive of scamnu.
