Slackware [ˈslækwɛə] oder [ˈslækwɛɚ] ist die älteste aktive Linux-Distribution und die erste, die große weltweite Verbreitung fand. Wegen dieses frühen Erfolges und des konsequenten Verzichts auf unnötigen Ballast nach dem KISS-Prinzip bildete Slackware die Grundlage für andere bekannte Distributionen wie z. B. SuSE Linux. Slackware ist für die Verwendung mit i486-kompatiblen (ursprünglich i386-kompatiblen) und x86-64-Architekturen sowie Alpha- und SPARC-Architekturen bestimmt.
