Sovata (Hongaars: Szováta) is een stad (oraș) in het Roemeense district Mureș. De gemeente telt 10.385 inwoners (2011) en ligt aan de rivier Târnava Mică (Kis-Küküllő), aan de rand van het . De stad ligt in het historische Hongaarstalige Szeklerland. De Roemeense minderheid is ongeveer 800 personen sterk. De Roemenen kwamen met name in de jaren onder Ceausescu naar de stad. Tot de gemeente behoren naast Sovata ook de dorpen: * Ilieși (Illyésmező) * Căpeți (Kopactanya) * Săcădat (Szakadát).
