De druppelschildpad (Clemmys guttata) behoort tot de familie moerasschildpadden (Emydidae). Het is tegenwoordig de enige soort uit het geslacht Clemmys. De soort werd voor het eerst wetenschappelijk beschreven door Johann Gottlob Schneider in 1792. Oorspronkelijk werd de wetenschappelijke naam Testudo guttata gebruikt.
