American musician (1929–2022)
Principal clarinet with the New York Philharmonic for 60 years, the longest tenure of any member of the orchestra in it's history. Retiring this year (2009) at age 80. Was admitted to Curtis Institute at age 15 and got his first professional job with the Cleveland Orchestra at the end of his freshman year at Curtis.
