La starlite sarebbe un materiale resistente che può proteggere e isolare dalle alte temperature, inventato tra il 1970 ed il 1980 dall'ex parrucchiere e chimico dilettante . Nel 1993 il materiale ha ricevuto una grande notorietà in Inghilterra grazie al programma televisivo trasmesso dalla BBC.
