Steven Balbus

Steven Andrew Balbus is an American astrophysicist and university teacher born in Philadelphia in 1953. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy and has been educated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of California, Berkeley. His professional career includes positions at Princeton University, the University of Oxford, the University of Virginia, and the École Normale Supérieure.

Balbus served as the Savilian Professor of Astronomy at the University of Oxford. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the Royal Society, and the International Astronomical Union. His accolades include the Shaw Prize, the Royal Society Wolfson Fellowship, the IOP Dirac Medal, and Fellowship of the Royal Society. He is also recognized in the Royal Society collection.
