Stockerau ist eine Stadt im Bezirk Korneuburg in Niederösterreich. Mit 16.783 Einwohnern (Stand 1. Jänner 2022) ist sie die größte Stadt des Weinviertels. Der Name Stockerau leitet sich angeblich aus der Zusammensetzung Stocker-Au ab: die Au der Holzfäller. Die Stockerauer Au – der Flusswald zwischen der Stadt und der Donau – ist heute noch ein wichtiges Erholungsgebiet für die Stockerauer, auch wenn durch den Bau des Donaukraftwerks Greifenstein merkliche Eingriffe in Landschaft und Ökosystem stattgefunden haben. Das Gebiet steht seit 1994 unter Naturschutz. Stockerau wird auch „Lenaustadt“ genannt, da der Dichter Nikolaus Lenau in seiner Jugend hier oft Zeit bei seinen Großeltern verbracht hat.
