==Etymology and classification== The word talwar originated from the Sanskrit word taravāri () which means "one-edged sword". It is the word for sword in several related languages, such as Hindustani (Hindi and Urdu), Nepali, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, etc. and as () in Bengali.
