Dotarł do 1 miejsca oficjalnej listy UK Albums Chart w Wielkiej Brytanii pozostając na niej przez 63 tygodnie. 20 kwietnia 2001 uzyskał status sześciokrotnej platyny przyznany przez British Phonographic Industry za sprzedaż ponad 1,9 mln egzemplarzy. The Greatest Hits okazał się bestsellerem w Wielkiej Brytanii i był 42 najlepiej sprzedającym się albumem w latach 2000. Wersja kanadyjska nosi tytuł Song Book. W brytyjskiej edycji albumu pojawiają się dwa dodatkowe utwory "Insane" i "Tired of Being Alone", które nie pojawiają się na wydaniu międzynarodowym. Wydana została także wersja japońska o niezmienionej liście utworów.
