Thomas Cowperthwait Eakins [ˈtɒməs ˈkaʊpəθweɪt ˈeɪkɪnz] (* 25. Juli 1844 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; † 25. Juni 1916 ebenda) war ein US-amerikanischer realistischer Maler. Er hat Fotografien und Skulpturen angefertigt, wurde aber mit seinen Gemälden berühmt. Zu seinen bekanntesten Bildern gehören seine Ruder-Bilder (siehe beispielsweise Max Schmitt im Einer), Die Klinik Gross (das 2006/2007 teuerste Gemälde eines Amerikaners von vor dem Zweiten Weltkrieg) und das für seine homoerotische Ausstrahlung bekannte Swimming. Eakins hat über 500 Gemälde, Aquarelle und Zeichnungen gemalt und gezeichnet, zu Lebzeiten aber nur sehr wenige verkauft. Zeitweilige Anerkennung fand er hingegen als Lehrer. Heute gilt Eakins als einer der wichtigsten US-amerikanischen Künstler.
