Die Historizität und Lokalisierung von Troja ist umstritten (siehe Troja-Debatte). Eine verbreitete Forschungsmeinung verortet Troja auf dem Hisarlık Tepe in der Provinz Çanakkale (Türkei). Der Fundplatz ist UNESCO-Welterbe.
